Art in empty shops, Derby
August 27, 2010 8:18 pm exhibitionsI recently visited Derby where Artcore embraced the art in empty shops scheme and created an exhibition at 48 St Peters Street, Derby (now finished).
These types of exhibitions capture a different audience and rejuvinate town centres. Artists yet again, occupy neglected spaces and make them desirable places to visit.
Works included Ivan Smith’s Tension, Iron and Bungee cords and a selection of artwork of artists from the East Midlands, UK, and from Vadodara (Baroda), India. The artworks reflected each artist’s perception and exploration of the theme of Globalisation.
The theme continuted at ‘Des Pardes: The Challenge of the Glocal’ at the DEDA dance centre.
artistsandmakers.com list all the schemes on their website (see empty shops).
